After many months of waiting, the diagnosis of Daniel's deformity is Maffucci's Syndrome, just as expected. Maffucci's Syndrome is an overgrowth of the vascular system. The doctor described it like this. If you are thinking about fertilizing a plant, there is the perfect amount that makes it grow healthy (like most of us). If you over fertilize (too much blood flow), you can have an overgrowth of the bones. This is what happened on the right side with his enlarged finger and thumb. If you WAY over fertilize (WAY TOO MUCH BLOOD) it will cause the plant, or bones in our case, to die. This is what has happened in in forearm and hand on his left side.
The Good news! The vascular overgrowth has not reached into his internal organs! Praising the Lord! His heart and lungs are perfectly healthy and should never be harmed by his syndrome. The bad news, there isn't anything we can do to improve the deformity. The Maffucci Syndrome can get worse during puberty. About 50% of the patients will show signs of more deformation at this time. There are a few case that do get better.
